Upcoming Events:

  • November 8th: First Generation College Celebration Day @ 6 - 6:45 PM ET

    • Join us in celebrating our First-Gen scholars with a panel who will share about their experiences navigating the college process as FG-college students and beyond. Register here

    • Call to Action: Are you First Gen, over 18? Want to be featured on the Ed Equity Lab’s Instagram as part of our First Gen Celebration Month? Send an email to success@edequitylab.org with the following info:

      • A picture along with your preferred full name, personal email address, what course(s) you took through the Lab, your current college/university, your major (or anticipated), a sentence or two about what it means to you to be a First Gen student, and a piece of advice for future first gen scholars!

  • November 9th & 16th: College Essay Guy’s - Essay Writing Drop-In Hours @ 7 - 8 PM ET

    • Have you written a draft for a college application essay, but you’re not sure how to make it the best it can be? Stop by the College Essay Guy drop-in hours to get one-on-one editing help from essay experts who can help you put your best foot forward.

    • Step 1: Prepare your essay draft - use this free guide to walk you through writing a personal statement essay in ~2 hours OR use this Ultimate Step-by-Step Guide to put together a great essay! And remember - your essay doesn’t need to be perfect, but be ready to bring something in draft form you can work on with an essay coach.

  • November 14th: Pioneer Academics Research Program Info Session @ 6 - 7 pm ET

    • Learn more about their program and how to apply by attending an information session with us on November 14th. See below for more info and register here!

  • November 15th: Young Womxn’s Leadership Council Meeting @ 6 - 6:30 PM ET

    • Join us for our first Womxn’s Empowerment Speaker Event with Spelman College’s Dr. Andrea Lewis! You’ll not only have a chance to hear from Professor Lewis about her personal and professional journey, but you’ll also have a dialogue on what it means to be an impactful, female leader. RSVP for our November meeting here! (Open to HS and College students)

  • November 15th: Pre-Law Night with Georgetown Law School @ 6:30 - 7PM ET

    • Ever thought about being a lawyer but not sure where to start? Look no further! Georgetown Law School's Dean of Admissions, Andy Cornblatt, as well as current law students at one of the top law schools in the country, will be sitting down to talk about what it takes to get into and navigate law school. This event is limited capacity and will be first come first serve to the first 40 students to sign up. Please RSVP here to secure your spot!

College Advising

  • GetSchooled: Don’t forget to sign up for your free, digital college and job advisor through Get Schooled! They’ve got the best and most up-to-date content on everything from applying to college and jobs, paying for college, and taking care of yourself. 

    • Scholars of any grade level can sign up for email support and text advising here! You can also text #edequity to 33-55-77 to sign up!

Check out the following scholarship opportunities from Ed Equity Lab partners!

  • Scholarship America Featured Scholarships:

    • Dellums SMART Scholarship: The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for students pursuing one of 24 STEM disciplines. The scholarship includes full tuition, annual stipend, internships, full-time employment after college, and much more! High school seniors can apply here.

      • Deadline: December 1, 2023 @ 5:00 PM ET

    • Amazon Future Engineers Scholarship: 400 students planning to pursue a computer science or engineering degree in college will win up to $40,000 for college and internship opportunities at Amazon! Read here for more details.

      • Deadline: December 15, 2023 @ 4:00 PM ET

  • The Stephen Phillips Memorial Fund Scholarship: Open to students who are entering or returning to college in Fall 2024. The SPMF offers scholarships with awards ranging from $2k to $17k to help make college more accessible for New England residents (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont). Spring & Summer 2024 Programs

  • Amazon AHEAD STEM Program & Scholarship: Amazon and iD Tech are partnering once again to sponsor students ages 11-18 to participate in a fully-funded six-month enrichment program bringing the magic of STEM to life. Amazon AHEAD is designed for youth residing in the Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay, or Washington, D.C. (DMV) metro areas. Selected applicants will attend this innovative program delivered by iD Tech, the world’s top STEM educator, and will be immersed in hands-on learning through a custom curriculum enhanced by Amazon.   • Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS): Are you looking for a transformative educational experience for the summer of 2024? Rooted in critical thinking and democratic community, TASS is a free, six-week summer program for current high school sophomores and juniors that allows you to explore how power and privilege shape social structures.     • Deadline: application opens November 15th; closes January 3, 2024

  • Pioneer Academics Research Program: Looking for ways to cultivate your research skills on a topic you are passionate about, connect with world-class professors who are experts in their subject area, and gain a great addition to your resume/college apps?  Then Pioneer Academics is the opportunity for you! The Pioneer Research Program is a virtual research institute for outstanding high school students worldwide. As a nominee from the National Education Equity Lab, if you gain admission to the program, you will be eligible for a full scholarship that will cover the tuition fee of the program ($6,450 USD).  Learn more about their program, and how to apply, by attending an information session with us on November 14 at 6PM ET!  Register here: https://apply.pioneeracademics.com/register/EdEquityLab

    • *Note: Attending this information session will give you a priority deadline, and your application priority consideration during the review process.  If you are not sure if you’ll be able to attend but still interested, we encourage you to sign up anyways!*

    • Priority Application Deadline: December 3, 2023 (Don’t forget to list “National Education Equity Lab” when they ask how you heard about the opportunity)

College Corner

  • REMINDER – University of Pennsylvania: Application Fee-Waiver Code

    • UPenn is offering a special code for low-income students considering Penn to waive the $75 application fee. Just enter the code below when you fill out your Common App or Coalition application—it's that simple!

  • Other Fee Waivers:

    • Students can use a Common App fee waiver to apply to any members in their application portal, as long as you qualify for the waiver. You can request a fee waiver in the waiver section of your Common App account.

    • They also have 526 colleges that don't have an application fee.  Those can be found under the find a college section on their website: commonapp.org
